Australia's and the United States Free Trade Agreement.
Australia and the United States of America have a strong bond in terms of imports and exports. This bond is in a form of a Free Trade Agreement. This agreement was first implemented in the year of 2005 ; on Janurary first. The common name for this trade agreement is The Australia – United States Free Trade Agreement (AUSFTA).
This bilateral agreement ensures that Australia and The United States of America are some of the leading countries in terms of imports and exports.
This free trade agreement meets the needs of all exporters and importers within Australia and the United States of America. These groups consist of :
- Manufacturers.
- Farmers and food processors.
- Service providers.
- Miners and metal producers.
- Creative industries.
- Exporters in general terms .
The AUSFTA ensures that all of these groups are coverered by legal documents and have access to the trade agreement on the
Internet and through the Government. Important figures in Australia and the United States of America have meetings ; in
Which involve discussing the effectiveness of the trade agreement ; and discusses ways in which the agreement can be
Improved for all sectors or both the Australian and United States economy. (Also known as FTA meetings).
The AUSFTA was originally thought of to be a bad idea ; with the Senate being reluctant to sign and pass the agreement. After
many meetings which involved negotiations and major discussions on the reasons as to why the agreement should be passed;
in terms of advantages and disadvantages.
In Washington D.C; Australia's trade minister at the time Mark Vaile and U.S Trade Representative Robert Zoelin signed the
Agreement ; in Feburary 2004. The agreement then became part of Australian and United States law on the 16th of August
2004.
